Salim Khan is born of a legacy of Bespoke Tailoring way before the word was even coined. His father, lovingly referred to as Masterji was a revered Cutter-cum-Tailor who ran an outlet called Fitwel in Mumbai.
Tragedy stuck in 1975 when he passed away leaving 14 year old Salim to mind the store. Fortunately, as his only son, Salim had spent long hours watching his father at work ensuring that Masterji’s skill was passed on.
This unique ability to craft a garment ensured Salim was able to continue handling his father’s highbrow clientele, which included politicians, industrialists, film stars and visiting foreign dignitaries.
Through his film clientele Salim established his identity as a ‘stylist’ to an array of Bollywood stars even doing entire wardrobes for commercial movies.
At a young age he was selected as a member of the jury panel of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), in the category of male fashion. He has curated fashion shows for renowned textile manufacturers including the reputed Reid & Taylor launch in India and also designed the Gen Next uniform for Go Airlines.
As early as 1996 young Salim recognised the clamour for identity design and knew he needed to reinvent Fitwel as a designer label and it was from here that brand Salim K was born.
Salim K’s creativity, unique bespoke ability and sheer hard work have gained him a faithful international clientele. This encouraged him to aspire to new horizons and he recently held his 1st first trunk show in London and based on this overwhelming success, he has taken the plunge to set up his 1st international outlet in London in 2018.
